Parents as Teachers (PAT)

Parents as Teachers is a unique parent education and readiness program based on the philosophy that parents are their children's first and most important teachers.   PAT educators work with expectant parents and parents of children birth to age three in their homes to assist them in anticipating their child's developmental milestones and help them to support and encourage optimal learning.  PAT translated the latest research on brain development into hands-on, easy-to-understand activities that parents can do with children.

    Topics covered include:
  • child development
  • how to use play and toys to encourage language, literacy, intellectual growth, and social and motor skills
  • behavior issues
  • positive discipline methods
  • ways to strengthen the parent/child relationship.

In addition to home visits, PAT offers:
  • playgroups
  • workshops
  • family get-togethers
  • developmental screenings
  • referrals to resources in the community.
